Investigating water world
The theme of this week was INVESTIGATING WATER WORLD! Heavy rain came just at the right time, in celebration of this weeks theme, but that didn't stop us from having fun!
MONDAY Word of the Day: DROUGHT (noun) A prolonged absence of something (like rain) We started the day with plant observations and boy did those plants sprout! Campers learned about the water cycle and played water cycle tag with Ranger Tyler. Campers explored the AWE system and colored water cycle coloring pages. There was even time for campers to be artistic as they continued to work on the lovely fruit and vegetable murals in the cafeteria! For snack, we enjoyed fresh blueberry and kale smoothies blended by our very own BICYCLE BLENDER! TUESDAY Word of the Day: HYDRATE (verb) To supply something (plants, animals, people) with water The day started off with a few stories read by Brooke from the Upper Skagit Library. Carol Hawk and Marjorie Bell from United General District #304 Community Health Outreach Programs came to visit and hosted the culinary corner. Campers made fresh beet, spinach, and sweet potato hummus and learned about the water content of these vegetables. Next was the literacy station where campers spent time reading, exploring the AWE system, and completing water-themed word searches. The day ended with color and play as campers were able to tie dye their very own pillow case. WEDNESDAY Word of the Day: RESTORATION (noun) The action of returning something to a former place, or condition (synonym) Repair – to fix something Lucy from the Howard Miller Steelhead Park made a visit to camp to teach us all about Salmon! Campers learned about the 5 species of salmon and the salmon life cycle. We even made bracelets to represent salmon life! The rain kept us indoors and campers had plenty of time for reading, writing, relay races, and games in the gym. At the end of the day campers took the time to share their gratitude by coloring and writing thank you notes to our local supporters! THURSDAY Yet another rainy day but that didn't keep the campers away! The day started off with playing alpha dog to get our blood pumping. Campers played the Salmon Life Cycle game with Ranger Julie and Ranger KJ, colored pictures of salmon, and even had the opportunity to observe a birds nest! The Wilderness Information Center was a short walk away so we decided to make a trip down to learn all about watershed! Campers wrote postcards to themselves about their favorite part about camp and drew pictures on the back. Campers warmed up with hot cocoa and marshmallows at snack and devoured the fresh blueberries from Cascadian Farms! We worked up an appetite after a long rainy day at camp. Thankfully, 5 b's bakery donated warm focaccia pizzas for lunch. YUM! |
