This week campers EXPLORED FARM FRIENDS by visiting a farm, learning about animals that live on farms, and reading about animals.
MONDAY Word of the Day: CULTIVATE (verb) To prepare and use (land) for crops or gardening
Campers visited Blue Heron Farm to learn how Farmer Anne cultivates her organic farm. Campers learned about raspberries and garlic before harvesting the crops. They listened to stories read by Farmer Anne and learned about the farm through a scavenger hunt.
TUESDAY Word of the Day: NURTURE (verb) To care for and encourage the growth and/or development
Animals came to CAMP! Goats, rabbits, and chickens visited campers to teach them about differences in the animals body versus humans. Campers learned the function of cloven feet, how many stomachs ruminants have, and the purpose of big rabbit ears. Campers then explored on the AWE system and learned more about animals in the wilderness using their Junior Ranger books. Campers enjoyed delicious homemade sub rolls for lunch donated by Perks Espresso.
WEDNESDAY Word of the Day: DIGEST (verb) To break down food
Brooke from the Upper Skagit Library came to camp to read stories about animals to the campers and her jokes made the campers go quackers. Campers learned about the eyes and teeth of animals from Tyler, selected two free books from Page Ahead, played animal games made by the WWU interns, and made personal pizzas using dough that was donated from Annie's Pizza.
THURSDAY Word of the Day: HABITAT (noun) The natural home for an animal, plant, or other organism
Campers went learned about habitats by adventuring up the Cow Heaven Trail (they even found a snake!), became friends with the trail crew horses, and wrote stories about animals. The windy day was exhausting. Thankfully, Cascadian Farms donated blueberries to keep us going until lunch.
